The journey to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is nothing short of a modern-day epic for countless students across India. For many, like myself, it begins with a deep passion for science and engineering, paired with admiration for the dedication required to crack the daunting Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Growing up, I was fascinated by the stories of IITians—their grit, discipline, and drive. Despite widespread criticism of the pressure JEE preparation imposes, I believe it builds unmatched resilience in those who walk the path.
The decision to join the IITian’s Hub’s integrated programme after Class 10 was my first major step. The programme promised to streamline JEE preparation while maintaining school academics. But nothing could prepare me for the emotional and mental rollercoaster that followed. Perseverance sounds noble—on paper. In reality, it meant long nights, unanswered doubts, self-doubt, and endless hours of solving problems I didn’t yet understand. It wasn’t just an exam I was preparing for—it was a crash course in grit and patience.
What I’ve come to realize is that life at IIT, particularly here at IIT Ropar, is about so much more than just the prestige or rank. The real transformation begins after the entrance exam. Being here is about discovering who you are beyond the label of a JEE ranker. It’s about navigating the immense academic pressure while trying to stay in touch with what brings you joy, peace, and purpose.
In my initial months at IIT Ropar, I struggled with this balance. The transition from coaching centers to an institute filled with brilliant minds was overwhelming. I questioned my place here. But slowly, I found a rhythm—joining student clubs, engaging in hostel life, and most importantly, diving into research.
My true calling emerged when I was introduced to Artificial Intelligence. What started as a casual elective became a full-fledged research pursuit. The potential of AI to solve real-world problems fascinated me. Through projects and lab work, I finally felt like I was doing something meaningful, not just chasing marks.
Today, I’m still a work in progress. But I’ve learned that life at an IIT is not just about academic excellence. It’s about developing the discipline to manage your time, the strength to get through failure, and the courage to follow your own path—even if it diverges from what you once thought was your dream.
This is what life at IIT Ropar truly offers—not just a degree, but a platform to grow, question, and evolve. It’s not about the JEE rank anymore; it’s about who you choose to become after you’ve earned that seat.
