The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) in Richmond has launched a significant exhibition titled “Frida: Beyond the Myth,” offering visitors a rare opportunity to engage with artworks by the iconic 20th-century Indigenous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Opening on April 5 and running through September 28, 2025, the exhibition aims to move beyond the commercialized image of Kahlo by exploring the profound influence of her physical and emotional challenges—including chronic pain, amputation, and depression—on her art and resilience. The immersive design features walls painted in colors reminiscent of Kahlo’s Casa Azul (Blue House), where she was born and later died. Over the next six months, the museum will host events celebrating her life and legacy, providing a deeper understanding of her enduring impact on art and culture.
