Brampton voters opted to maintain the status quo in terms of their representation at Queen’s Park for the next four years.
All five of the city’s incumbent Progressive Conservative (PC) MPPs were re-elected in Thursday’s (Feb. 27) snap election, with each garnering over 50 per cent of the vote in their respective ridings.
In the end, Liberal leader and former Mississauga mayor Bonnie Crombie’s ties to Peel Region didn’t help her party regain any kind of foothold in Brampton or Mississauga, failing to even win her own seat.
“Together, we have made history. Together, we have secured a strong, historic, third majority mandate — a mandate to protect Ontario,” newly re-elected Premier Doug Ford told supporters during his victory speech on Thursday night.
In total, the PCs won 80 seats, with the Ontario NDP returning as the official opposition with 27 seats and the Ontario Liberals regaining official party status by capturing 14 seats. The Green Party managed to hold on to two seats, with an independent candidate claiming one.
